My Summer Reading

Hi my name is Natalie. I love to read, and I got in a lot over the summer. My favorite genre would probably be science fiction or fantasy. These books let me get lost in a world where everything seems better, but never really is. They allow me to escape from reality, yet still remind me that my problems aren't always as big as I think they are. One of my favorite authors is Libba Bray. She wrote the book, "The Diviners," and "A Great and terrible Beauty."  I love these books because they include fantasy, and a little bit of dark magic. It's like The Harry Potter series, mixed with New York in the 1800's.

I love to read out on my back deck, or in my room. These places are my sanctuaries, and are a great way for me to escape from the drama of having 2 brothers. As long as the place I read in is quiet and homey, then I will be content.

Over the summer I read 4 books, and I think my favorite would probably be a book called "Yaqui Delgado wants to kick your ass." It may sound like a stupid book that is only about bullying, but it is so much more then that. This book is about finding love as a not stereotypically beautiful girl, and dealing with an obese single for a mom, and coping with abuse from another girl at school for no apparent reason. Through all this, she goes through finding out that her father didn't want her, so he walked out. I enjoyed this book, it opened my eyes to all the struggles kids go through as teens, and   It showed me how mean kids can can really be.
Overall I loved the books that I read over the summer, and I hope to read many, many more book through this upcoming year
