While going through life, people have to get to all of the large milestones and then choose which way to go. In "The Future of Us," the milestones Emma and Josh they get to choose. By being able so see what is happening in their lives, they have the ability to perform an action, and see how it affects their future selves. This is dangerous, because it causes them to act differently. This statement from josh stuck out to me: "'here's the thing, I already agreed to go with Sydney to the beach.'" This quote is of josh changing his actions. Normally josh would be afraid to ever even have a conversation, but since he knows from Facebook that he marries Sydney, so now he isn't afraid of taking this drastic action. He is changing his actions to hurry up his future, but doesn't realize that he is slowly changing it.
Emma like many other people has trouble finding the right people to trust and devote herself to. Gram is not special, and will never be there for Emma like Josh always has. As for Cody, Emma has caught him hitting on multiple girls. Cody has a good image but is nothing more then that. A lot of teens have trouble choosing the real friends over the cool kids with bad reputations. "I'm so lost for you. The lyrics make me thing of Cody Grainger. He's on the track team with me. He's a senior and an incredible sprinter, ranked top 20 in the state." This quote showed me that Emma can only describe what everyone knows about him. She can't say that he's sweet, or funny or smart, because he probably isn't. Emma is just creating the perfect personality for Cody in her head to go along with his image and reputations. She's twisting him around to make him seem perfect.
Overall people can be impatient just like Emma, which makes them eager to change everything into what they prefer. Emma learns her lesson for trying to rush the rest of her life when she was only in high school. Everybody loves perfection, but this book shows that it is never obtainable.
This is beautifully written but there are a lot of spelling and grammatical errors so work on that next time!
